If you're planning your wedding in Fort Worth, Saginaw, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, or anywhere in the DFW metroplex, there’s a good chance you’ve asked yourself this question: Do I really need a second shooter? As a DFW wedding photographer who has photographed weddings all over North Texas, my answer is almost always yes, if it's in your budget.
Before we go any further, let me reassure you: you can still have beautiful, story rich wedding photos with just one photographer. So if your budget is tight, don’t stress for a second. A good, experienced photographer can handle a wedding day solo.
But… if you do have the room in your budget, hiring a second shooter can elevate your wedding gallery in ways that truly make a difference. Here’s how I personally use second shooters to make your day run smoother and your photos even better:
1. We can be in two places at once.
This is the biggest perk. When I have a second shooter with me at your wedding, we split up so nothing gets missed. I typically stay with the bride while my second shooter stays with the groom. That means both sides of the story get captured evenly. All the nerves, laughs, details, and moments leading up to “I do.”
2. You get multiple angles of the same moment.
Ceremony moments happen fast. When you’re walking down the aisle, I’m usually focused on you and that beautiful entrance. Meanwhile, my second shooter is watching the groom’s reaction from the front. That combo of perspectives is one of the sweetest parts of a finished gallery.
3. Your guests and cocktail hour are covered.
If capturing your guests is important to you, a second shooter is your best friend. While I’m photographing portraits after the ceremony, your second shooter can be at cocktail hour documenting all the hugs, laughter, and candid memories.
4. It keeps the bride and groom fully separate before the first look or ceremony.
My second shooter and I wear discreet earpieces to quietly communicate throughout the day. That way we always know where each of you is. No risk of accidentally crossing paths before you’re ready.
5. It helps keep the timeline on track.
Wedding days can move quickly, especially at venues in busy DFW areas like Fort Worth, HEB, or the Mid-Cities. Having two photographers allows us to divide and conquer. While I’m photographing the bride and bridesmaids, my second shooter can handle the groom and groomsmen. This is huge when we need to make up time or stay on schedule.
If you're still unsure or have more questions about whether a second shooter is right for your wedding day, I’d love to chat with you. Every couple and every wedding day is unique, and I’m always here to help you choose what fits your vision best.
