Loco Lake Event Venue in Sunset, Texas: An Industrial Lakeside Wedding Venue in DFW

If you’re searching for an industrial wedding venue in DFW, Loco Lake Event Venue in Sunset, Texas should absolutely be on your list. It’s a little farther out from the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, but after photographing Tami and Ray’s fall 2025 wedding here, I can tell you firsthand that the drive is worth it.

As a North Texas wedding photographer, I love venues that give couples beautiful spaces without making their wedding feel overly formal or cookie-cutter. Loco Lake does exactly that. You get an industrial-inspired reception space, a beautiful ceremony site overlooking the water, unique getting-ready suites, and so many little details throughout the property that make it feel completely different from a traditional wedding venue.

And after spending a full wedding day there with one of my favorite couples, I noticed something else: Loco Lake isn’t just pretty. It has personality.

If you’re considering an industrial wedding venue near DFW, here’s what I think you should know about Loco Lake before you book it.

Why I Love Loco Lake Event Venue

The first thing you’ll notice about Loco Lake is the combination of industrial design and peaceful lake views.

Those two things don’t necessarily sound like they should go together, but somehow, they work.

The reception hall has some of the prettiest chandeliers, surrounded by industrial details that give the space a modern but still welcoming feel. Outside, the ceremony space faces the water, giving you a completely different atmosphere when it’s time to say your vows.

That contrast is one of my favorite things about photographing here.

Your gallery can have the clean, architectural feel of an industrial venue while also having romantic lakeside portraits. You’re not stuck with one look for the entire day.

And then there are the little details.

One thing I noticed while photographing Tami and Ray’s wedding is that the venue carries its themes throughout the property. The girls’ spaces, guys’ spaces, and even the bathrooms coordinate with the overall design. It isn’t just one decorated room with a few cute details thrown in. The personality of the venue continues throughout the property.

Those are the kinds of details I love noticing as a photographer because they’re easy to overlook when you’re focused on the big things.

But when you’re looking back at your wedding gallery years from now, those little pieces of your day help tell the whole story.

Loco Lake Is Perfect for Couples Who Want Something Different

If you’re looking for a traditional ballroom or a classic white wedding venue, Loco Lake probably isn’t what you’re picturing.

And that’s exactly why I think it’s so fun.

The venue works beautifully for couples who want something that feels:

Industrial
Modern
Rustic
Western
Lakeside
Contemporary
Colorful and personality-filled

The reception hall gives you an elegant backdrop with its chandeliers and industrial details, while the outdoor spaces bring in the natural beauty of the lake.

It gives you room to make the wedding feel like you.

The Ceremony Space Is Beautiful, but Pay Attention to the Sun!

This is probably my biggest photographer tip if you’re considering Loco Lake.

Pay attention to your ceremony lighting.

The outdoor ceremony space is beautiful because it faces the water, but there isn’t a large covering over the ceremony area to block the sun. Depending on the time of day and time of year, that can create some very harsh light.

And while the setting sun glistening across the lake can sound absolutely dreamy, and it can be beautiful,it can also create glare and make it difficult for your guests to comfortably see the ceremony.

As the photographer, I’m looking at the sun from a completely different perspective than you might be when you’re touring the venue.

I’m thinking about where the sun will be when you walk down the aisle, where the shadows will fall across your faces, whether your guests will be looking directly into bright light, and what that means for your ceremony photographs.

So if you’re planning an outdoor ceremony at Loco Lake, I would talk through the ceremony time with your photographer and venue coordinator before locking it in.

You don’t necessarily need to avoid an evening ceremony. You just want to make sure you’re intentional about where the sun will be.

That’s one of those little things that may not cross your mind when you’re touring a venue, but it’s exactly the kind of thing I want my couples to know ahead of time.

The Best Photo Locations at Loco Lake

One of my favorite things about Loco Lake is that we don’t have to leave the property to get a variety of photographs.

The Lakeside Ceremony Space

The ceremony area overlooking the water gives you a beautiful, open backdrop for your vows.

The lake adds a peaceful, natural element to your ceremony photographs while the modern structure keeps the setting from feeling too rustic.

The Lake

Of course, we have to talk about the lake.

This is where I would want to spend some time with my couples for portraits, especially later in the day when the light becomes softer.

There’s something about stepping away from the reception for a few minutes, walking down toward the water with your new spouse, and having a quiet moment together that I absolutely love photographing.

You don’t need to spend an hour taking portraits.

Sometimes 20 minutes of intentional time together is enough.

The Getting-Ready Suites

The themed bridal and groom spaces give your getting-ready photographs a lot of personality.

And because the spaces throughout the venue carry similar themes, there are plenty of little details to photograph while everyone is getting ready.

This is also where I love slowing things down.

Your dress hanging by the window, your bridesmaids helping with jewelry, your mom fixing the final detail, your groom laughing with his friends, those moments are part of your wedding story, too.

The Reception Hall

Then there’s the reception hall.

The chandeliers are gorgeous, and the combination of warm lighting and industrial details gives the room a really unique atmosphere.

Once the reception gets going, the space feels completely different from the quiet ceremony setting outside.

And that’s another reason I love this venue for photography: your gallery gets to change with your wedding day.

What I Learned Photographing Tami and Ray’s Loco Lake Wedding

Tami and Ray were married at Loco Lake in fall 2025, and honestly, this is one of the weddings that immediately comes to mind when I think about how much personality this venue has.

They were one of my favorite couples to photograph, and their wedding was just fun.

Their celebration included lights, sparklers, and a cake bar from Jonesin4Cupcakes, which was absolutely delicious.

But what I remember most is how much the day felt like them.

That’s what I want couples to remember when they’re planning a wedding: you don’t have to choose between a beautiful wedding and a wedding that feels like you.

You can have both.

And as your photographer, that’s something I pay attention to throughout the entire day.

I’m not just looking for the prettiest backdrop.

I’m watching your people.

I’m watching the way your dad looks at you before you walk down the aisle. I’m watching your friends lose their minds on the dance floor. I’m watching the little interactions you probably won’t notice because you’re busy being married.

Those are the photographs I don’t want to miss.

Planning Your Loco Lake Wedding Timeline

Because the venue has so many spaces onsite, you can build a timeline that gives you variety without spending your wedding day driving around for photographs.

If I were helping you build your photography timeline, we’d talk through things like:

Getting ready:
Give yourself enough time for details, bridal-party photographs, and the candid moments happening before the ceremony.

First look:
A first look can give you more time for portraits before the ceremony and allow you to spend more of your cocktail hour with your guests.

Ceremony:
Be intentional about your ceremony time and the direction of the sun.

Family and wedding party portraits:
Having a plan for these ahead of time keeps everyone from standing around wondering what happens next.

Golden hour:
Save approximately 20–30 minutes for portraits around the lake when the light is softer.

Reception:
Once the chandeliers and venue lighting are glowing, we’ll have a completely different atmosphere for your reception photographs.

Nighttime portraits:
If you want to sneak away for a few minutes, the lights and neon details can create some really fun nighttime images.

My goal isn’t to make your entire wedding day revolve around photography.

It’s the opposite.

I want your timeline to work for your life, your people, and your celebration, and then I’ll fit the photography into it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Loco Lake Event Venue

Is Loco Lake an indoor or outdoor wedding venue?

Loco Lake offers both an outdoor lakeside ceremony space and an indoor reception hall, giving couples the option to incorporate both natural and industrial settings into their wedding day.

What style of wedding works well at Loco Lake?

Loco Lake is especially well suited for couples who love industrial, modern, rustic, western, contemporary, or lakeside wedding styles.

Does Loco Lake have separate bridal and groom suites?

Yes. The venue has separate getting-ready spaces for the bride and groom, and the themed design throughout these spaces adds a lot of personality to getting-ready photographs.

Is Loco Lake a good wedding venue for photography?

Absolutely. Between the lake, ceremony space, themed getting-ready rooms, industrial reception hall, chandeliers, and nighttime lighting, there are plenty of opportunities for variety throughout your wedding gallery.

What should I know about lighting at Loco Lake?

If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, pay close attention to the position of the sun. The ceremony space does not have a large covering to block harsh sunlight, so your ceremony time can make a significant difference in both guest comfort and your photographs.

This is something I would recommend discussing with your photographer before finalizing your ceremony time.

Is Loco Lake worth the drive from DFW?

In my opinion, one of the biggest advantages of Loco Lake is that it feels like you’re getting away from the Metroplex without sacrificing a beautiful, thoughtfully designed wedding venue.

It is a little farther out, but if you love the industrial-meets-lakeside aesthetic, I think it’s worth considering.

Why Your Photographer’s Perspective Matters When Choosing a Venue

When you’re touring wedding venues, you’re probably looking at the things that matter most to you: the reception space, guest capacity, ceremony location, getting-ready rooms, and overall style.

And you should.

But your photographer is looking at the venue a little differently.

I’m looking at where the light falls.

I’m looking at where you’ll be standing during the ceremony.

I’m looking at where we can take portraits without pulling you away from your guests for an hour.

I’m looking at the little spaces that will make your gallery feel more complete.

And I’m thinking about what your wedding day will actually feel like when you’re in the middle of it.

That’s why I don’t believe choosing a wedding photographer should happen after you’ve already planned everything else.

Your photographer can help you think through the timeline, lighting, portrait locations, and little logistical details that can make your day feel much more relaxed.
