Ellis County Event Center in Waxahachie, Texas: An Elegant and Affordable Ellis County Wedding Venue

If you’re searching for an affordable and elegant wedding venue in Ellis County, Ellis County Event Center in Waxahachie, Texas is one I think is worth touring.

I photographed Daniel and Madi Loreto’s wedding here in fall 2025, and what stood out to me wasn’t just how beautiful the space was. It was how much flexibility the venue gives couples. You can use their all-inclusive options if you want an easier planning experience, or take advantage of their open vendor policy if you already have a team you love.

As a wedding photographer in Fort Worth, I pay attention to more than whether a venue photographs well. I’m looking at how your day is actually going to work, where you’re getting ready, where we’ll take portraits, how much time you’ll have with your guests, and what happens when the ceremony space needs to become the reception space.

And those details can make a huge difference in how relaxed you feel on your wedding day.

Why I Love Ellis County Event Center

One of my favorite things about Ellis County Event Center is that you get two very different wedding experiences in one property.

Outside, there’s a large open field that gives you that beautiful outdoor feeling for portraits.

Inside, the reception space is elegant, spacious, and filled with hanging chandeliers that completely change the atmosphere.

That combination is one of my favorite things about photographing here.

You can have those soft, natural outdoor portraits without giving up the elegant feel of an indoor reception.

And if you’re trying to balance a beautiful wedding with a realistic budget, I also think the venue’s flexibility is worth paying attention to.

An All-Inclusive Venue With an Open Vendor Policy

One of the things that makes Ellis County Event Center particularly appealing is that you have options when it comes to planning.

The venue is all-inclusive, which can be a huge benefit if you don’t want to coordinate every individual piece of your wedding yourself.

But they also have an open vendor policy, so if you’ve already found vendors you love, you have more freedom to bring your own team in.

That’s a really nice combination.

Some couples want someone else to handle the details.

Other couples have been saving vendor names on Instagram for two years and already know exactly who they want.

You don’t necessarily have to choose between convenience and personalization here.

The One Thing I’d Plan For: The Ceremony-to-Reception Flip

If you’re considering Ellis County Event Center, this is one thing I would want you to know before booking:

The ceremony and reception spaces need to flip.

That means your ceremony space needs to be transformed into your reception space while you’re moving into the next part of your wedding day.

And this is exactly where I would recommend having a wedding coordinator. (Highly recommend reaching out to Blissful and Blessed Unions!)

I’ve photographed enough weddings to see how much easier the day can feel when someone other than the couple is responsible for making sure these transitions happen.

You don’t want to finish saying your vows and then spend cocktail hour wondering whether the tables are set up correctly.

You definitely don’t want to be checking on the chairs, centerpieces, or reception setup yourself.

You should be enjoying your guests.

As your photographer, I want to be able to take you away for your portraits knowing that someone else is keeping an eye on the logistics.

That’s one of those little decisions that can make a surprisingly big difference in how your wedding day feels.

The Best Photo Locations at Ellis County Event Center

Even though Ellis County Event Center has a primarily indoor wedding setup, there are several places throughout the property that give your wedding gallery a lot of variety.

The Grand Staircase

The staircase is one of the first places I’d want to use for portraits.

It’s dramatic without feeling overly complicated, making it a beautiful backdrop for bridal portraits, wedding-party photographs, and your entrance into the ceremony.

It also gives us a little more dimension than a standard flat-wall portrait.

The Hanging Chandeliers

The chandeliers are one of my favorite details inside the venue.

They add an elegant feel to the reception space and become especially beautiful once the room is fully lit for the evening.

They’re also one of those details that help make your reception photographs feel like your wedding, rather than generic dance-floor photographs.

The Ceremony Space

The elevated ceremony area gives us clean sightlines and a beautiful focal point for your vows.

And because the space is indoors, you don’t have to worry about your ceremony being completely dependent on the weather.

The Open Field

Then, just when you might think we’re going to spend the entire day inside, you have the open field outside.

This is one of my favorite things about the venue.

It gives you that outdoor, natural feeling without requiring you to drive somewhere else for portraits.

If the timing works with your wedding day, I would absolutely want to take advantage of this space around sunset.

The Reception Hall

Once the reception begins, the chandeliers, lighting, and spacious dance floor create a completely different atmosphere.

This is where the gallery shifts from soft portraits into the fun, energetic part of your wedding day.

And I love that your photographs can show both sides of your celebration.

Planning Your Portraits Around Sunset

If I were photographing your wedding at Ellis County Event Center, one thing I’d really want to protect in your timeline is 20–30 minutes outside around sunset.

You have this big open field right outside the venue, and when the light starts getting softer, it gives us a completely different look from the elegant indoor reception space.

That contrast is valuable.

You can have your grand staircase portraits.

Your chandelier-filled reception photographs.

And then a few quiet portraits outside with just the two of you and the evening sky.

You don’t have to spend an hour away from your guests to get those photographs.

Sometimes 20 minutes is all we need.

And honestly, those few minutes can become one of my favorite parts of your wedding day because it gives you a chance to step away, breathe, and remember that you’re actually married now.

A Real Ellis County Event Center Wedding: Daniel & Madi

I photographed Daniel and Madi Loreto’s wedding here in fall 2025, and their celebration was so much fun.

They didn’t just have a beautiful wedding, they made the entire night feel like them.

They brought in a mobile tattoo artist, the DJ had incredible lighting and even bubbles filling the air, and later in the night there was a late-night walking taco snack.

Yes. Walking tacos. And I loved it!

Those are the kinds of details I want to remember about weddings.

Because your wedding doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s.

You can have the elegant chandeliers and beautiful venue.

And then you can have a mobile tattoo artist, or bubbles, or your favorite late-night food.

Your photographs should show it all!

That’s one of the reasons I love being a wedding photographer. I’m not just photographing the “pretty” parts of your wedding. I’m watching for the things that make your celebration unmistakably yours.

What Should Your Wedding Timeline Look Like?

Because Ellis County Event Center has so much happening within one property, your timeline can be pretty streamlined.

If I were helping you plan your photography timeline, we’d talk through:

Getting ready:
Take advantage of the onsite getting-ready spaces and give yourself enough time for details and candid moments.

Pre-ceremony portraits:
If you’re doing a first look, we can use the staircase and other indoor areas for portraits before guests arrive.

Ceremony:
Plan enough time to actually enjoy the ceremony without immediately rushing into the next event.

Ceremony-to-reception flip:
This is where your coordinator becomes especially important. Let someone else handle the room transformation while you enjoy cocktail hour and portraits.

Family and wedding party portraits:
We’ll create a plan ahead of time so you’re not spending forever rounding people up.

Golden hour:
Protect 20–30 minutes for portraits in the open field.

Reception:
Once the room is ready, go enjoy your party.

Nighttime portraits:
If you want them, we can step away for a few minutes once the chandeliers and reception lighting are glowing.

The goal isn’t to cram every possible photograph into your day.

The goal is to build a timeline that lets you have the photographs you love without feeling like photography is taking over your wedding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ellis County Event Center

Is Ellis County Event Center an indoor wedding venue?

The main ceremony and reception spaces are indoors, which makes the venue a great option for couples who don’t want their wedding plans to depend entirely on the weather. There is also an open field outside that provides a beautiful option for portraits.

Is Ellis County Event Center all-inclusive?

Yes. The venue offers all-inclusive options for couples who want a more streamlined planning experience.

At the same time, the venue has an open vendor policy, giving couples flexibility if they prefer to bring in their own vendors.

Does Ellis County Event Center have getting-ready spaces?

Yes. The venue has dedicated spaces for getting ready, allowing the wedding party to prepare onsite instead of traveling to another location.

What are the best places for wedding photographs?

Some of my favorite areas include the grand staircase, ceremony space, reception hall, hanging chandeliers, and the open field outside for sunset portraits.

Does the ceremony space need to be flipped for the reception?

Yes. Couples should plan for the ceremony and reception spaces to be transitioned between events.

Because of that, I strongly recommend having a coordinator who can manage the flip while you enjoy your wedding day and take photographs.

Is Ellis County Event Center a good venue for an elegant wedding?

Absolutely. The hanging chandeliers, spacious interior, staircase, and reception design create a beautiful elegant atmosphere, while the outdoor field gives you the option for more natural and relaxed portraits.

Why Your Coordinator Matters More Than You Think

One of the biggest things I’ve learned from photographing weddings is that the couples who have someone else managing the logistics usually have a much easier time actually enjoying their wedding.

And I get it.

You planned it.

You know exactly where everything is supposed to go.

You want to make sure your vision comes together.

But your wedding day is not the day to be the project manager.

When I’m photographing your wedding, I want you focused on your spouse and your people—not whether the reception tables have been moved into place.

That’s why I’d encourage you to have a coordinator who can take ownership of the venue flip and the little logistical details.

Then when I pull you outside for portraits, you can actually relax.

You don’t have to wonder what’s happening inside.

Someone else has it.

And that’s the kind of wedding experience I want for my couples.

I’ll help you think through your timeline, your ceremony and reception transition, your portrait locations, and the best time to sneak outside for those golden-hour photographs.

But more importantly, I’ll be watching for the things that make your wedding yours.

The mobile tattoo artist.

The bubbles.

The walking tacos.

The people who dance like nobody is watching.

The person who cries during your vows.

The little moments you didn’t even realize happened.

Those are the photographs I want you to have.
