When I’m photographing a ceremony here, I’m very intentional about where I position myself. I typically work from the back of the ceremony space so I can keep an eye on how the sun is coming through the trees and avoid strange spots of harsh light falling across your faces.

One of the most unique features is the four giant garage-style sliding doors.

These can open up the space to the outdoors, which gives you another way to bring some fresh air and outdoor atmosphere into your reception.

The reception hall can also serve as an indoor ceremony space, giving you a backup option if weather changes your plans.

Getting Ready at Azle Deer Cove

The getting-ready suite is located toward the front of the venue and is separated from the reception hall by the kitchen and food-service area.

I actually like that separation from a photography standpoint.

It helps keep the getting-ready portion of the day a little more removed from the activity happening in the reception space.

That means you can settle in, get your details photographed, spend time with your bridesmaids, and prepare for the ceremony without having everyone constantly walking through your space.

And those quiet getting-ready moments are worth documenting.

Your wedding day doesn’t begin when you walk down the aisle.

It begins when your dress comes out of the bag.

When your bridesmaids start getting ready.

A Real Azle Deer Cove Wedding: Tom & Lori

Tom and Lori’s wedding at Azle Deer Cove in fall 2025 is one of the weddings that sticks with me.

They were both on the police force, so their wedding was filled with officers, which gave the entire celebration a really unique sense of community.

But there was one moment in particular that I’ll never forget.

Lori’s dad wasn’t able to be there, so Tom’s dad stepped in and danced the father-daughter dance with her.

It was such a beautiful moment.

And that’s exactly why I don’t want to be the photographer who only cares about getting the “Pinterest-worthy” photographs.

Yes, I want the beautiful portraits.

Yes, I want you to love your wedding album.

They didn’t have anyone else to do it, and Tom was trying to handle it himself, so I jumped in.

Was cutting the cake technically part of my photography contract?

No.

Was Tom’s wedding cake getting cut more important than me standing there holding a camera?

Also no.

Sometimes you just help.

And that’s how I want my couples to feel with me.
